The Last Public Hoorah!

Final Public Open Weekend of 2019

Open Weekend

Roll up, roll up folks! Take this opportunity to visit a strictly trade only nursery and growers to the Chelsea Flower Show.

We are welcoming all on Saturday 7th and Sunday 8th September – including little ones and well behaved doggies. Join us to purchase some of our beautiful plants and eat homemade cake and drink tea in our gorgeous nursery garden. We only open three times a year and this is your final chance to come and visit us in 2019!

September is a great time to plant, not only for late season colour for this year but for enhancing the garden for next year. The ground will be warm, encouraging plants to develop healthy root systems before the onset of Winter.

Feel free to bring some clear skies and sunshine too please!

National Gardens Scheme Opening

Excitement builds as How Green open for NGS for first time!

We’re proud to announce, we are opening our doors to all for charity on Saturday 20th & Sunday 21st August. Take this opportunity to visit a strictly trade only plant nursery.

Since its foundation, the National Gardens Scheme has donated over £45 million to nominated beneficiaries, of which nearly £23 million has been donated within the last ten years. A fantastic charity giving tremendous support to some very worthy causes!

We open from 10am – 5pm on both days and there is a admission fee of £3.00 for adults (children free). Well behaved dogs, more than welcome! Come and see a working nursery in motion with guided tours twice a day.

Nursery garden and summerhouse also open to relax in and take in light refreshments – yum!

August is a great time to visit the nursery, with plenty of newly potted plants available to buy for late season planting!

Heavenly Heucheras!

As Autumn approaches and many plants start to fade, give some time and space for a Heuchera or two! Being evergreen, they are a perfect perennial to plant now to give some colour through the gloomiest of months!

We here at How Green have a thing for a Heuchera and their versatility is second to none. They work very well in pots and containers, either alone or used in a combination with other plants. They are equally at home in the border and are a great contrast with different coloured Heucheras or again with other plants.

As a general rule, they are a shade loving plant, which can be handy for those difficult spots in the garden that need livening up. There are however many varieties that are equally at home in full sun. The main draw is for the plants foliage, which not only come in many different colours, but also different shapes and textures. There are giant, miniature, scalloped as well as serrated edged leaves to give a depth of variety available.

The flowers should never be over-looked. In Spring and early Summer, a mass of foam-like flowers emerge above the foliage again in a range of colours. Most are white, but some have a tinge of pink whilst others are bright red.

This Autumn we are offering 46 different varieties, including some brand spanking new additions, as well as the trusted old favourites. To check out our extensive collection, come visit us at the Penshurst Craft Fair this coming weekend, (Friday 6th, Saturday 7th & Sunday 8th September) held in the grounds of Penshurst Place. We have a plant stand and show garden in conjunction with Chilstone of Fordcombe.

If you can’t make this weekend, why not pay the nursery a visit the following weekend for our last public open weekend of the 2013. We’re open Saturday 14th & Sunday 15th September and our entire stock can be viewed and purchased! Nearly 4000 different plants to choose from and delicious home made tea & cake will be served in our wonderful Summer house!

Nursery Rocking!

Last weekend, How Green opened it’s doors once again for this years second instalment of public open days! The sun shone and the nursery filled up with eager plant enthusiasts!

We welcomed visitors from near and far, some loyal customers and many new faces. The nursery dogs greeted with wagging tails and played ‘fetch the stick’ with children bored of looking at plants.

The tea flowed and delicious home made cake was served in our Summer house, overlooking our garden that had been beautifully manicured by mum!

We leave you with some images captured by lovely Nats from Ginger & Fig - an ace photographer and whizzo web site designer, who funnily enough created our wonderful site! If you feel enticed by these photo’s, come check us out at our last public open weekend this year – September 14th and 15th.

Thank-you all for supporting us!
