How Green’s second public open weekend not to be missed!
Where has the year gone?! It only seems like five minutes ago that we were opening our doors for our Spring event! All are welcome next Saturday 13th and Sunday 14th June, 9am – 5pm on both days.
We are strictly trade only and limit our public access to three weekends throughout the year. Come check out growers to Jo Thompsons M&G sponsored garden at this years Chelsea Flower Show!
We have an extensive range of plants with our speciality being herbaceous perennials. All very reasonably priced and home-made teas and cakes available in the surrounds of our lovely summer house!
Our First Trade Open Days of the Season
My how time flies! It only seems like five minutes ago we were heading into the depths of winter with all our plants snuggled up ready to go into hibernation! Christmas came and went and here we are, it’s the start of March and Spring is well and truly in the air!
We have seen very buoyant early season sales, both with garden centre sales and landscaper orders which is fantastic! To bolster the early enthusiasm we bring to you the first of our special ‘Trade Days’. We invite existing trade customers and give new faces a warm welcome this coming Friday 13th & Saturday 14th March. Doors open at 9am until 5pm on both days. Take this opportunity to check out what we are growing for 2015. We have over 3000 different plants, including many brand new varieties.
We will be providing home-made tea & cake in our summer house with the chance to network with other green-fingered nuts! To top it all, we will be offering a 10% discount on all orders taken on the day!
Our 2015 trade catalogue is now ready and available to pick up on these days. If you cannot make our trade days and would still like a catalogue, then contact us and we’ll pop one in the post for you.
Our final public open weekend of 2014
Last weekend we opened our gates to the public for our Autumn extravaganza! We only host these special days three times a year and our September event is a perfect showcase for late season colour!
It never ceases to amaze us at the popularity of these days and the attendance was again phenomenal! An ever faithful band of regulars and many new faces were welcomed to the nursery by our staff and Tonto & Ted the nursery dogs!
We decorated our 1972 VW camper van with an array of grasses and late flowering perennials and displayed a selection of our many Heucheras. Planting combinations and ideas could be taken from them.
Hazel was once again on hand to give valuable advice – she’s not actually a member of staff, but a very good trade customer of ours and willingly helps out at our open days! She’s gaining quite a following! We salute you Hazel!
With plant buying satisfied, customers then headed off to our garden and summer house to indulge in tea drinking and cake eating! Trouble is, you didn’t leave much left for us!
Thank you all for your amazing support during 2014 and see you at our 2015 events! (dates to appear here soon). We aren’t going into hibernation just yet, so check out our website & Facebook site for nursery news, gossip, new plants and our legendary Christmas quiz!
Our second public open weekend of 2014 – all welcome!
How time flies round these parts, especially when you’ve been as busy vas we have this Spring/Summer! What an amazing season we have had so far.
After one of the wettest, most miserable Winters ever, the British weather has actually perked up quite considerably! Since February, we’ve had warm temperatures and our fair share of sunshine – great gardening weather!
Our stocks have taken a real battering, but there’s still plenty to wet the taste buds for this coming weekend. Come and leisurely wander round our six acre nursery, not normally open to the public. Plants at some of the major garden centres are a mere after-thought, but here you’ll be in a horticultural dream world!
Gates open at 9am on both days through until 5pm. They’ll be delicious home made cakes and teas on offer in our garden and summer house – yum!
(We regret to say, we have completely sold out of basket and patio plants – sorry!)
As Autumn approaches and many plants start to fade, give some time and space for a Heuchera or two! Being evergreen, they are a perfect perennial to plant now to give some colour through the gloomiest of months!
We here at How Green have a thing for a Heuchera and their versatility is second to none. They work very well in pots and containers, either alone or used in a combination with other plants. They are equally at home in the border and are a great contrast with different coloured Heucheras or again with other plants.
As a general rule, they are a shade loving plant, which can be handy for those difficult spots in the garden that need livening up. There are however many varieties that are equally at home in full sun. The main draw is for the plants foliage, which not only come in many different colours, but also different shapes and textures. There are giant, miniature, scalloped as well as serrated edged leaves to give a depth of variety available.
The flowers should never be over-looked. In Spring and early Summer, a mass of foam-like flowers emerge above the foliage again in a range of colours. Most are white, but some have a tinge of pink whilst others are bright red.
This Autumn we are offering 46 different varieties, including some brand spanking new additions, as well as the trusted old favourites. To check out our extensive collection, come visit us at the Penshurst Craft Fair this coming weekend, (Friday 6th, Saturday 7th & Sunday 8th September) held in the grounds of Penshurst Place. We have a plant stand and show garden in conjunction with Chilstone of Fordcombe.
If you can’t make this weekend, why not pay the nursery a visit the following weekend for our last public open weekend of the 2013. We’re open Saturday 14th & Sunday 15th September and our entire stock can be viewed and purchased! Nearly 4000 different plants to choose from and delicious home made tea & cake will be served in our wonderful Summer house!
