Plant now for best results!
After a pretty good Summer with long, warm sunny days, there’s definitely a nip in the air and dewy mornings! Autumn is well and truly upon us and the perfect time for planting. Historically this time of year is the best time to plant trees, shrubs and perennials, with the ground warm and moisture in the soil (hopefully – we need some rain!)
We have been busily potting up the last few months and the nursery is now brimming with lots of fresh new perennials, grasses and ferns. As well as firm garden favourites, we also have plenty of brand new plants to choose from.
To complement what we grow ourselves, we also offer a plant sourcing service. We have a broad spectrum of growers throughout the UK and Europe we can rely on to offer you trees (including pleached), shrubs of all shapes and sizes, hedging and for the next few weeks, loose bulbs.
So why not give us a go and send us your quotes. We’re very prompt at replying and competitive when it comes to price. All that’s left to say is, ‘Happy planting’!
How Green Expands it’s Offerings!
Our speciality here at the nursery is herbaceous perennials which are all grown and nurtured here at the nursery.
Our garden design/landscape customers are frequently looking for other material such as trees and shrubs to compliment their herbaceous planting. We have been working hard the past twelve months, building up a portfolio of growers throughout the UK and Europe who can offer us quality specimen plants.
Please do not hesitate in contacting us for a quote on just about anything – the world’s a small place nowadays!
We had a lovely delivery of pleached Carpinus betulus for a client last week – he was thrilled to bits with them!
How Green head to the biggest horticultural show in the world!
Last week we flew out to Essen in Germany to IPM, over 1600 trade stands of plant heaven! Our second year in a visiting capacity, we use the opportunity to look out for new plants and to source material for clients.
We specialise in growing herbaceous perennials, but our garden designer customers are looking for the whole package. We have a wide networking chain of contacts now and can supply trees and shrubs in all shapes and sizes. IPM is a fantastic way of finding new suppliers and can actually see the plants they have on offer.
Three exhausting days later and we’ve found some great new growers with a range of wonderful new plants! Hydrangea’s, Camellia’s and Magnolia’s amongst the standout offerings from the 49 countries exhibiting! Growers from as far afield as Taiwan, China & Sri Lanka shows the world is a very small place nowadays!
Going forward into 2016, why not give us a shout in regards to all your plant needs – we will speedily respond to your quotes!
As another year draws to a close, we reflect on a great 2015!
We here at How Green can’t believe how quickly 2015 has flown by!! It only seems like yesterday since we were penning these pages in a similar vain. What a year!!
Our season started very early back in early February. After a wet early part of Winter, the weather started to behave and our landscape customers could work on projects without getting swamped! A cold easterly wind seemed to stay with us for weeks and weeks, but importantly it stayed dry. Garden centre’s were buoyant with gardeners keen to get planting after the long, dark months!
We were once again involved with growing for the Chelsea Flower Show and grew the hardy annuals for Jo Thompson’s ‘The Retreat Garden’. The result, a silver-gilt medal, although the general opinion is, she should have won gold! Never mind Jo, there’s always next year!
Our series of public open weekends once again proved very successful! Great to see our regular followers as well as plenty of new faces. (Our 2016 dates will be posted soon). We also hosted talks and tours here at the nursery. We welcome garden societies & clubs who can also have exclusive access to the nursery and are able to go shopping! Amongst our guests this year were the PGG (Professional Gardeners Guild) and the SGD (Society of Garden Designers).
We continued busy throughout the whole year, again helping out with a garden at Hampton Court (The Yardly sponsored ‘A Growing Obsession) and our garden design/landscape followers have been flat out even up until Christmas!
We remain confident going into 2016 with some projects already pencilled in for January. As we go to press, we can announce we are opening for the first time for the NGS and are also involved with two gardens & a trade stand at Chelsea Flower Show! We wish you all a very Merry Christmas and a fab New Year!
******Our 2015 Christmas quiz is available to tackle from our availability download on this site. 100 green-fingered questions to test the grey matter this festive season! Get your answers back to us before January 10th – prizes for the best efforts! Helen Yemm, the gardening writer for the Daily Telegraph was our joint winner last year – no pressure!!*******
The season here at How Green still rumbles on with landscapers and designers still very busy! We have been ordering in quality hedging and topiary for clients and our own grown perennials have been flying out.
With all this activity, we still find time to attend the FutureScape trade show. FutureScape brings together landscape contractors (maintenance, design and build), garden designers and architects. The event has joined forces with the industry’s leading associations to promote the event to all their members. Pro Landscaper magazine and website will be supporting the event. It’s a relatively new event, but has been expanding in exhibitors and visitors year on year.
There will be a series of free seminars throughout the day which are always really interesting and informative. Guest speakers this year include Ann-Marie Powell, Matt Childs and Mark Gregory (Landform).
We will be teaming up with our friends Chilstone of Langton Green on the stand, so why not pop along and say ‘hi’!
