How Green head to the biggest horticultural show in the world!
Last week we flew out to Essen in Germany to IPM, over 1600 trade stands of plant heaven! Our second year in a visiting capacity, we use the opportunity to look out for new plants and to source material for clients.
We specialise in growing herbaceous perennials, but our garden designer customers are looking for the whole package. We have a wide networking chain of contacts now and can supply trees and shrubs in all shapes and sizes. IPM is a fantastic way of finding new suppliers and can actually see the plants they have on offer.
Three exhausting days later and we’ve found some great new growers with a range of wonderful new plants! Hydrangea’s, Camellia’s and Magnolia’s amongst the standout offerings from the 49 countries exhibiting! Growers from as far afield as Taiwan, China & Sri Lanka shows the world is a very small place nowadays!
Going forward into 2016, why not give us a shout in regards to all your plant needs – we will speedily respond to your quotes!
The season here at How Green still rumbles on with landscapers and designers still very busy! We have been ordering in quality hedging and topiary for clients and our own grown perennials have been flying out.
With all this activity, we still find time to attend the FutureScape trade show. FutureScape brings together landscape contractors (maintenance, design and build), garden designers and architects. The event has joined forces with the industry’s leading associations to promote the event to all their members. Pro Landscaper magazine and website will be supporting the event. It’s a relatively new event, but has been expanding in exhibitors and visitors year on year.
There will be a series of free seminars throughout the day which are always really interesting and informative. Guest speakers this year include Ann-Marie Powell, Matt Childs and Mark Gregory (Landform).
We will be teaming up with our friends Chilstone of Langton Green on the stand, so why not pop along and say ‘hi’!
Very busy month ahead!
It’s difficult to believe it’s September already and the onset of Autumn is well under way! After a very dry year here in the south east, we’ve already experienced one of the wettest Augusts on record! Always a silver lining here at How Green, we have welcomed the rain, as Autumn signifies one of the best times for planting!
With this in mind, we have a lot going on this month. Firstly, we have a trade open day Friday 4th September. Strictly garden centres and garden designers/landscapers are warmly welcome to check out our new stock for the Autumn and into 2016. Special 10% off rate for orders taken on the day and network with tea & cake in our summer house!
Saturday 5th & Sunday 6th we open our doors to the public for our third and final weekend of the year. Take this opportunity to visit a trade nursery, with thousands of perennials, grasses, alpines, topiary and (NEW!!) a selection of shrubs! Great prices and knowledgable staff on hand to help with plant questions and advice. Take in tea & home-made cake in our summer house.
Friday 11th, Saturday 12th & Sunday 13th we head out on the road and are attending two events. Come and see us at the Penshurst Craft Fair, held in the grounds of Penshurst Place. We have a plant stand & show garden with a selection of late season interest alongside our friends Chilstone of Langton Green. The same weekend we also find ourselves exhibiting at Hever Castle and their newly launched Handmade and Homegrown Festival. A selection of local crafts, food and quilting, all held in the magnificent grounds of Hever Castle.
What a season!
We’ve been very quiet on these pages recently – we haven’t had time to update and fill you in with nursery news as we’ve been sooo busy! The weather has certainly helped, with a dry Spring after a relatively wet Winter helping the nations gardeners start in earnest.
An upturn in fortune with the economy means our designer/landscaper customers have been flat out on projects, creating some wonderful gardens locally.
As we enter August, our stock levels have taken a real battering the last few months. You’ll be pleased to hear, we have been busily beavering away sowing seeds, taking cuttings and potting up plugs. We now found ourselves with an enormous amount of potting up!
Our potting machine is in full swing and soon our nursery will be at capacity again for Autumn sales and into Spring – the whole cycle starts again!! Come check us out for our trade open day in September, where we will be show-casing our range of new stock.
