We are a traditional grower in the sense that we still adopt many propagation techniques; from seed sowing, cuttings, root cuttings, division and layering. This means we can offer a greater range than the growers that only use bought in plug material.
A plant we are continually asked for is Melica altissima alba. This is a very difficult plant to grow and also in our opinion Melica uniflora alba is a better plant. We say better as M. uniflora alba has a slightly shorter habit meaning it doesn’t lend itself to falling over.
Melica uniflora alba is also very, very difficult to grow. We’ve previously had 0% germination on our own seed and from commercially bought seed. It has taken us a couple of years to figure out what this plant needs to succeed – we’ve researched with other growers without success, but we’ve suddenly nailed it.
Obviously if we told you how we did it, we’d have to kill you!
We now have plenty of 2 litre plants up for grabs and hundreds coming on in different stages for sale throughout the year.
