A Very Merry Christmas and a Happy & Prosperous New Year from us all at How Green! It doesn’t seem like five minutes ago, we were penning these pages for Christmas and looking back at 2013 – how time flies! Here at the nursery, with Christmas just over a week away, the excitement has started to build for the festive season! Autumn – Hillcroft Revisited!

Seven months after our extensive planting project at Caterham on the Hill, we paid the site a visit, to see how it looked! Back in March, we were approached by Caterham Parish Council to deliver a new planting scheme at Hillcroft Corner, in the middle of Caterham on the Hill high street. The brief was simple. They wanted all the old woody shrubs replaced with something that would be very low maintenance, no watering and would look great all year

Heavenly Heucheras!

As Autumn approaches and many plants start to fade, give some time and space for a Heuchera or two! Being evergreen, they are a perfect perennial to plant now to give some colour through the gloomiest of months! We here at How Green have a thing for a Heuchera and their versatility is second to none. They work very well in pots and containers, either alone or used in a combination with other plants. They are equally at home in

How Green was packed for two days, full of eager horticulturists, desperate to get gardening after twelve months of dreadful

A New Venture!

Last week the hard working staff at How Green finished a project to rejuvenate a prominent bed in Caterham on the Hill in Surrey. Working with the town’s parish council, we scrubbed out the tired, old shrubs and bedding. The brief was a complicated one! A low maintenance, drought tolerant garden that has all year round interest, with the wow factor! Not a particulary easy remit!! The shape and layout of the existing bed did not need changing and in fact

Happy New Year!

What a wonderful Christmas we all had here at How Green! We kicked off the holiday in great style with our annual Christmas party. The dining room was turned into a Winter wonderland, decorated beautifully and Christmas carols filled the air! As is the tradition here at the nursery, there is no turkey with all the trimmings, not even a Christmas pud! This is through choice however and our loyal workforce unanimously vote in each year without fail……. fish & chips!!! Christmas

Spring is in the air as bulbs come out of hiding

We at How Green are very particular when it comes to the quality of our plants. Great care and attention is given to get our plants looking as best they can for you! No more so than our potted bulb range. We adopt the traditional method of growing our bulbs in sand beds. As can be seen from the photo’s below, we place 4-5″ of sand on top of the bulbs. This ensures lovely tight, even growth. It is a
