Springing into action

What a topsy-turvy week of weather we’ve just had. One minute it was glorious, the next wall-to-wall rain. One thing is for sure, temperatures for February have been very warm. The first thing to respond to increased day length and temperature are our plants – so many of our dormant herbaceous perennials have started to wake up and our potted bulbs have shot up. Spotlight on… Edgeworthia chrysantha

It’s 1st February, and the splendid Edgeworthia chrysantha, has burst into flower. Commonly known as paperbush, this deciduous, bushy shrub is closely related to the Daphne. One of the new series that we are growing are the Pretty Ellen cultivars. What we love about them is that they have been bred so that

One of the first bulbs to put on a show are our Galanthus elwesii, more commonly known as the Giant Snowdrop. It always amazes us that no matter how cold or dreary the weather is they pop up through the ground to put on a wonderful display. G. elwesii produces some of the largest Snowdrop flowers at up to 2.5cm long, with a beautiful

Exciting plans for 2024

We received some great news at the start of the year with planning permission for our new ‘super growing unit’ finally being granted! This will enable us to grow many more plants in peat-free compost and extend our range, including more shrubs. Investment in new potting machines and equipment will also be a great bonus. We’ll keep you abreast of developments in the coming weeks. We are switching to a new nursery management system that will be up and running
