It’s amazing to think another year has passed and never has the saying ‘how time flies’ been more relevant! This year has flown by! Looking back on 2012 it’s been a very difficult year in the horticultural world.
The year started with great promise, with garden centre and garden designer sales very strong up to March. It was a month which saw temperatures in the mid-twenties and nursery staff in shorts and T-shirts. Our 30th anniversary season looked as though it was to be a vintage!
All positivity was then dashed in April when local authorities up and down the country implemented hosepipe bans for domestic and at some point professional users. Two very dry years subsequently lead to these measures as reservoirs and aquifers began to run dangerously low.
Then the irony!! No sooner had the hosepipe ban been put in place, the heavens opened and it didn’t (hasn’t!) stopped raining since! The phrase ‘driest drought on record’ started to be used in conversation! The combination of the ban and bad weather throughout what should have been our busiest months was disastrous!
There was a mini revival with the Queens jubilee and of course the Olympics. Colour schemes were all the rage with red, white and blue plants selling like hot cakes! We end the year on an up-beat note, with very strong sales throughout the Autumn. We will take this positivity forward into 2013 and hope we all have a bumper year!
We have expanded our business again this Winter and will be offering over 500 new plants next season and in greater numbers. Look out for our bumper new 2013 catalogue, being printed as we speak and available on request from January. We now have a new storage/dispatch depot, a new tunnel in the pipeline and more standing grounds.
We are hosting a series of public open weekends again which proved very popular this year. Check our website for further details. We will also be running a series of events for the landscape/garden designer trade with special offers and discounts.
So from us all at How Green Nursery, we wish you a very Merry Christmas and all the best for the coming season! ****Be sure to checkout our Christmas quiz! Final chance to have a nose around
To celebrate our 30th anniversary year as a business, we have been opening our gates to the public for the first time in nearly 20 years! We have had two weekends so far, one in the Spring and one in the Summer. This weekend represents the final installment for this year.
We open 9am – 5pm on both Saturday 15th & Sunday 16th. You will get to see the nursery with plenty of Autumn interest, as well as some really interesting plants we have grown for the 2013 season.
Highlight will include late flowering perennials and a large selection of grasses. Also available to buy will be alpines, herbs, Autumn vegetable plants, tropical plants, succulents and patio plants.
See how a commercial nursery ticks and how we produce hundreds of thousands of plants a year. Come meet the famous Tonto the bonkers nursery dog, who has made several appearances on these pages this year!
Thumbs up for open weekend number two!
Last weekend saw the second installment of our series of public open days, to celebrate our 30th anniversary year as a business. Many thanks goes out to those who paid us a visit.
For once, the weather was kind to us and visitors were greeted by sunny skies and only the odd little shower! The nursery was looking as tidy as it has looked for a long while and our stock looked fresh and vibrant with all the recent rain. Even Tonto the nursery dog behaved himself this time and no car mud-flaps came to any harm!
Put in your diary the dates for our final open weekend of the year. September 15th & 16th. This will be the best time to visit, with the nursery at full capacity with stock and many new plants for 2013 can be viewed and purchased.
Here’s our Public Open Weekend perennial display! Off the back of How Green Nursery designing a 2 acre garden locally, we are now offering an ‘instant’ herbaceous border service. Contact the nursery for further details.
Great opportunity to visit our wholesale nursery.
How time flies! We already find ourselves in June and our second installment of open days is upon us. After the roaring success of our April dates, we welcome you to visit the nursery next weekend, June 16th and 17th. April was all about Spring, but this time round you will find a dazzling array of Summer plants in their prime all wanting a new home!
Celebrate with us our 30th anniversary as a business and choose from a huge range of perennials, grasses, alpines, herbs, veg, soft fruit, patio and topiary. Doors open 9am – 5pm on both days. Be there! Alternatively, if you can’t make our open days, why not visit us at The Wealden Times Summer Fair at Hole Park 0n 14th, 15th & 16th June.
Busy week at the nursery.
The nursery has been a hive of activity this week, with the onset of the Queens Diamond Jubilee celebrations! Hundreds of red, white and blue hanging baskets have left the nursery and are now proudly being displayed in Edenbridge, Tonbridge, Borough Green, Woldingham and Caterham.
Garden centres have been stocking up with Jubilee themed plants, with Dahlia Diamond Jubilee, Euphorbia Diamond Frost and Helianthemum Jubilee the most popular items!
Garden designers have been frantically popping in and out of the nursery to prepare clients gardens for the long bank holiday weekend. In some cases, it was all a bit of a squeeze!!
